When an Asbestos Survey Is Usually Needed Before Work Starts

Asbestos becomes a serious issue not because it is old, but because disturbance creates risk. That is why surveys matter so much before refurbishment, demolition or intrusive work. If a building or structure could contain asbestos-containing materials, the safest and most commercially sensible step is to identify that risk before contractors arrive on site.

The type of work matters

A management survey is different from a refurbishment or demolition survey. The correct survey depends on what is about to happen. If work will disturb the fabric of the building, a more intrusive survey is usually needed because the aim is to identify materials that may be hidden in walls, ceilings, floors, service runs or plant areas.

Why timing is important

Early surveying allows the team to plan any removal, encapsulation or management measures properly before work begins.
