FAQ

Common questions about environmental consultancy reports, surveys and assessments.

Answers for developers, landowners, property professionals, consultants and project teams. If your question is site-specific, use Help Me Choose or send the details through our enquiry builder.

01

Getting started

Are you the local council?

No. EnviroSolution is a private commercial environmental consultancy. We are not the local council and we do not deal with routine council nuisance, domestic pest-control or household bin-waste issues.

Do you only work in the North West?

No. Our head office is in Liverpool, but we provide suitable environmental consultancy services nationwide across the UK.

What environmental services does EnviroSolution provide?

We provide a broad range of environmental, planning, ground, building-compliance and development-support services. These include Phase 1 Desktop Studies, Phase 2 Ground Investigations, contaminated land, Coal Mining Risk Assessments, geotechnical work, drainage and infiltration testing, asbestos, ecology, acoustics, air quality, energy and specialist environmental assessments. See the full services list.

Which report do I need?

It depends on the site, planning wording, proposed development and project objective. Use Help Me Choose or the enquiry builder and we will help identify the most likely route.

Can I request several services at once?

Yes. The enquiry builder allows you to select multiple services and upload one set of site documents so related reports and surveys can be scoped together.

What information should I send with an enquiry?

Where available, send the site address and postcode, planning reference, red-line boundary plan, proposed layout, planning condition wording, previous reports and your required deadline.

I have several questions about a project. Should I call or send an enquiry?

We are happy to speak by phone, but for project-specific advice the enquiry builder is usually best because it lets you provide the site details, services and supporting documents together. For a general question, you can also contact the team.

How can I request a specific survey or assessment?

Select the service from our Services page and add it to your enquiry, or use the general enquiry builder to select one or more services.

Do you offer urgent environmental support?

Often, yes, subject to scope, staff availability, site access and any laboratory or subcontractor requirements. For time-critical matters use our Emergency page or call the team.

Where can I see examples of your previous work?

Visit our Case Studies for examples of environmental, planning, ground-investigation and specialist project work.

Are your assessments compliant and professionally supported?

We work to the professional standards, guidance and quality processes relevant to each commission. See our Accreditations page for current memberships, certifications and assurance information.

02

Planning, land and ground

What is included in a Phase 1 Desktop Study?

A Phase 1 Desktop Study reviews the site setting, historical land use, environmental data, planning and regulatory context and potential pollutant linkages. It normally includes a Conceptual Site Model and recommendations for further assessment where required.

What is a Phase 2 Ground Investigation?

A Phase 2 Ground Investigation uses intrusive investigation such as trial pits or boreholes, together with sampling and laboratory testing where required, to verify and quantify ground, contamination, groundwater or ground-gas risks identified at desktop stage or through planning review.

Do I normally need a Phase 1 before a Phase 2?

Usually, yes. The Phase 1, planning condition or other preliminary risk assessment normally informs the Phase 2 scope so the intrusive investigation targets the relevant potential pollutant linkages and ground risks.

What is a Coal Mining Risk Assessment?

A Coal Mining Risk Assessment (CMRA) evaluates risks associated with former coal mining, such as shallow workings, mine entries and subsidence, and is commonly used to support planning in Coal Authority risk areas.

What is involved in a geo-environmental or geotechnical site investigation?

The scope depends on the development and risks identified. It may include desk study review, intrusive investigation, trial pits, boreholes, sampling, laboratory testing and interpretation of contamination and/or engineering ground conditions. See Phase 2 Ground Investigation and Geotechnical.

Do you provide contaminated land assessments?

Yes. We support contaminated-land projects from desktop assessment through intrusive investigation, risk assessment, remediation strategy and validation, depending on the site and planning requirements. See Contaminated Land.

Do you perform infiltration testing for SuDS?

Yes. Infiltration testing can provide site-specific infiltration data for drainage design and SuDS, drainage and flood-risk work.

How can I classify waste from construction or remediation works?

Our Waste Classification service can review sampling and laboratory data, classify soils or materials and advise on hazardous-waste and disposal considerations, including WAC-related requirements where relevant.

Can you help with PFAS contamination?

Yes. Our PFAS service can support risk screening, source and receptor review, sampling strategy, interpretation and next-step advice for land or water projects.

Do you provide services for invasive plant species?

Yes. We can support identification and management of invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed where they may affect development, land transactions or construction. See Invasive Plants.

Can you support sinkhole or ground-instability investigations?

Yes. The appropriate route depends on the suspected cause and site geology and may involve desk study, mining review, geotechnical investigation or intrusive ground investigation. Relevant examples are available in our Case Studies.

03

Buildings, planning and specialist assessments

Do you carry out asbestos surveys for schools, hospitals and other buildings?

Yes. Our Asbestos Survey service supports a range of property types and project needs, including management, refurbishment, demolition and redevelopment.

Can you help with SAP calculations and sustainability assessments?

Yes. We provide SAP Calculations for residential Part L compliance and Sustainability support for wider energy, carbon and project requirements.

Do you provide EPC assessments?

Yes. Our EPC service supports applicable sale, lease, compliance and handover requirements.

Can you carry out air permeability or air-tightness testing?

Yes. Air Tightness Testing supports Building Regulations and Part L compliance by measuring building-envelope performance.

What are lighting assessments used for?

Lighting Assessments can support planning and design where proposed lighting may affect residential amenity, highways, ecology or other sensitive receptors.

What planning and development assessments can you provide?

Depending on the proposal, this may include Air Quality, Acoustics, Traffic & Highways, SuDS, Drainage & Flood, ecology, arboriculture, contaminated land and other technical disciplines.

Do you offer specialist services such as anthrax, lead paint, EMF and COMAH MATTE assessments?

Yes. Our specialist services include Anthrax & Lead Paint, EMF and COMAH MATTE Assessments, subject to project scope and requirements.

Do you support developers and infrastructure projects?
