New SuDS Standards Raise Expectations – Evidence You’ll Need
Updated SuDS standards raise expectations
National guidance and industry standards for SuDS have been refreshed, placing greater emphasis on water quality, biodiversity and long‑term maintenance. Even where SuDS are not yet mandatory, many LPAs are adopting the updated standards as the benchmark for approval, particularly on major applications and sensitive catchments.
What this means for design teams
Drainage strategies should now set out the SuDS treatment train, infiltration testing evidence, exceedance routing and adoption/maintenance responsibilities. Designs that default to deep pipes and tanks without demonstrating infiltration hierarchy are being challenged more often—resulting in requests for further information and design iterations.
How EnviroSolution can help
We provide infiltration testing with clear pass/fail evidence for soakaway feasibility and practical recommendations when infiltration is limited (e.g., high groundwater). Our reports drop straight into strategy documents to help secure LPA approval.
