Desk-based contamination review and Phase 2 intrusive investigation supporting a new school building and foundation-options appraisal in Wrexham.
The Project
EnviroSolution was approached to undertake desk-based and intrusive geo-environmental investigation work to assist with contaminated-land planning conditions and a foundation-options appraisal for a new school building. Initial feasibility work had identified two potential building locations.
The Challenge
The preliminary review identified the site as historically forming part of Hermitage Camp, a Second World War military training camp, creating an unexploded-ordnance consideration for intrusive works.
The Solution
The UXO risk was communicated to the client and a solution was developed to maintain the required programme. Intrusive work proceeded under a qualified UXO supervisor and included window-sample borehole drilling, infiltration testing, and gas and groundwater monitoring.
The Benefit
Potential constraints were identified early and the client was informed of the additional site-work considerations. EnviroSolution's working relationship with a UXO contractor allowed the investigation to proceed safely while meeting the client's deadline.
