Eagle Works Supplementary Delineation Sampling

Targeted follow-up investigation in Wolverhampton to delineate asbestos and hydrocarbon contamination and support a cost-effective remediation scheme.

Eagle Works Supplementary Delineation Sampling - EnviroSolution case study
The Project

The Project

Following a preliminary contaminated-land investigation at a vacated industrial unit with a history including a foundry, flax mill and manufacturing uses, asbestos fibres and groundwater hydrocarbons were identified. EnviroSolution recommended supplementary investigation to delineate these contaminants and update the risk assessment.

The Challenge

The Challenge

The client needed to understand whether the asbestos and hydrocarbon findings represented widespread contamination or more limited sources that could be managed more efficiently.

The Solution

The Solution

EnviroSolution mobilised quickly and completed trial pitting, chemical analysis and vapour sampling using existing monitoring wells. No further asbestos was detected across the wider site, indicating a localised hotspot. Trial pitting also identified a buried fuel-storage tank associated with the hydrocarbon contamination, while surrounding soils were shown to be unaffected.

The Benefit

The Benefit

The additional evidence demonstrated that the asbestos impact was limited in extent and helped identify the hydrocarbon source. Liaison with the Local Authority Contaminated Land Officer supported a more cost-effective remediation scheme and reduced uncertainty for the client.
